Introduction – The Purgatory Between College And Career

Hello everyone!

I am writing this introduction to you today and beyond because we have shared the same dreadful and a sometimes depressive experience of answering the question: “what do you want to do in life?” The pressure and legitimacy held by this question is only heightened as we grow up. First, our graduation from elementary school. These worries (hopefully) are the last things on our minds. Then follows graduating from high school where our parents or guardians are beginning to expect us to make important life decisions. Finally, graduating from college can mark not only writing our new chapter in the book of life, but can mean a new book entirely. Simply put, the main goal of this blog is to just keep you writing. Throughout this blog, you will learn from my knowledge and experiences (past and present) along with that of college professors, people experiencing various points of their career, and other guest speakers about life after college with the hope to help you avoid or overcome the same problems and challenges that every student faces after receiving their diplomas.

Now the first thing a writer (especially a blogger) needs to do is build trust with their readers, so here is a more personal background on myself.

I was raised on the south side of Chicago and currently have an apartment on the north side. As you can imagine, I have experienced just about everything that can happen in these areas and what I can say now is they have shaped me to be who I am today. I am very grateful to say I come from an amazing family which includes my grandmother Patricia, my mother Julie, my father Joseph, and lastly but certainly not least my older sister Claire. As for my love life, I just got engaged this past Christmas to my beautiful fiancé Kory! All of my family members have pushed me to be a better person in their own unique way, but that will be a discussion for a non-introductory article!

My education background includes a B.B.A. with a concentration in Management and a M.B.A. with a concentration in International Business both from the one and only Loyola University of Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business. Don’t worry if you have a completely different degree or even chose to enter the workforce right out of high school, because no matter what your area of expertise is/was, everyone still encounters the similar challenges including finding jobs, improving their lifestyles, handling student loans, or just making life changing decisions after graduation.

If I am able to impact just one person with these insights, I will be happy. But I do hope to help anyone going through this tough time and help you make changes or new beginnings that positively impact this transition.
